Before we get to know the rules in the job search market, it will be very good for us to pause for a moment to answer some basic questions about ourselves. I would like to first ask you this simple question ‘Who are you?’
Don’t be quick to give me an answer because I know who you really are. May be I don’t know your name as you will be expecting me to; neither do I know your complexion, hobbies nor favourite foods but I know you.
‘You are just like anybody else.’
That looks annoying, isn’t it? But hey, that’s the hard truth. I don’t dispute the fact that you were wonderfully and uniquely made by God.
The only thing I want you to understand here is that, you are not any different from the thousands of your mates who graduated with you in the same year, the thousands of graduate who graduated before you and have not found themselves in any employment and the thousands of graduates who are yet to graduate from school.
You are all the same. You have the same qualification and the same certificate. You are birds of the same kind.
It even goes beyond that. You have the same interests and you are after the same thing. Your midnight worries are the same and that is; Work! Work!! And Work!!! That is exactly who you are.
Knowing who you are, where you are and what you want, will help you to determine who you want to be and where you want to be. In reality, that solves more than 50% of your unemployment wahala!
Most graduates run the job search race without prior knowledge of whom they are racing with. They take the race as if they are running it alone; forgetting that they are racing with the likes of Usain Bolt
Write your CV’s, go for follow ups and attend interviews with the notion that you are doing them with thousands of your likes.
